When you plan a visit to Raleigh, North Carolina, you want some things to see and do that are exciting and offer some adventure and history. One place that is a delight to visit is the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science. Now this does not sound exciting, but what you can experience is exciting. They have interesting exhibits and hands on activities. This is somewhere that one cannot only learn about science, but you can also participate in experiments and other activities.

The Haywood Hall House and gardens is a place to visit while in Raleigh. It is the oldest house in the city with the furnishings of the family who lived there. John Haywood built the house in 1799. The house is a treasure to see as well as the beautiful gardens. After you see this attraction, you will want to see the farmstead located in Historic Oak View County Park. There is also a pecan grove, herb garden, fishing hole and a cotton museum. This is place where you can spend the entire day and have a picnic lunch at one of the picnic sites.

One of the favorite things to do in Raleigh is take the guided trolley tours. This tour takes you by restaurants, shops, museums, government buildings and other historical sites. The trolley tour takes you through two hundred years of history. There is also a walking tour on Sundays through the downtown area. A beautiful site to see is the Martin Luther King, Junior Memorial Gardens.

The gardens are beautiful and it was the first park developed and named after a civil rights leader. There is a life sized bronze statue in the gardens of the leader himself. The King memorial wall is located in the gardens with over twenty-five hundred bricks with names of supporters. The Silver Lake Water Park is another famous attraction to keep everyone’s attention. They have dry attraction as well as wet attractions. Bumper boats are a blast for all ages and the water slides are exciting. If you prefer to stay dry, you can try a ride with the pedal boats on the spring fed lake.

You will find that all the attractions in Raleigh, North Carolina are exciting and worth seeing. They have many different museums and parks for you to see as well as farmers markets and summer concerts. The North Carolina Wineries should be your list of must see list. You will see how the wine is made and take a walk through the vineyards.

Gardening With Nature Sweden
How skilled do you have to be to WWOOF?

I’m very interested in WOOFing, and would like to know from others who have WOOFed how skilled you have to be with farming, carpentry, etc. I’m a vegan, I care a lot about nature, and I really want to travel (specifically to Sweden), but I’m NOT a mechanical person AT ALL. I’m no good with my hands or physical stuff and have NO EXPERIENCE gardening or farming. I’m not against hard work, and am actually looking to work outdoors during the late summer months to get some exercise.

So, my biggest fear is screwing up planting stuff or not being as quick as the farmers want me to be. I’d hate to embarass myself or let anyone down by not being good enough- how much skill level do these people expect? Do they just need some hired hands to do the work? Are they usually patient? laid back?

    During the winter months, one of the best places to visit is one of America’s first green houses. George Washington was an avid gardener ever since he chopped down his first cherry tree. Mount Vernon, located near Alexandria, Virginia, was the plantation home of George Washington. The mansion is wood construction, built in neoclassical Georgian architectural style. The estate is located on the banks of the majestic Potomac River.

    Mount Vernon is open seven days a week, every day of the year, including holidays and Christmas. Visitors are invited to tour the Mansion house and more than a dozen outlying buildings, including the slave quarters, kitchen, stables, and greenhouses.
