Gardening Dallas

Gardening Dallas
Dallas TX for a day, what to do?

Going to have a free day before we see the Cowboys in Arlington. Anything fun to do (that isnt too expensive like Six flags) around Dallas, Irving?

I love dogs (A cool pet shop?), video games and nice scenery (gardens ect)

Thanks!

Thanks
Yes I wanted to go to the state fair, but I belive it ends on the 18th… which is before I will be there.
@Prairie Girl. : Oops, October 24th is the day we will be free. And thanks for the suggestions!

You didn’t say when you’d be here, and of course it depends on the weather, but you might enjoy this. The northern part of Irving is called Las Colinas, and at Hwy 114 and O’Connor Blvd is Williams Square.
There is a larger than life bronze sculpture of several mustangs running through water. It’s beautiful. Also at Williams Square is the Mandalay Canal which is a European-style waterway with cobblestone walkways lined with shops and restaurants. It’s free unless you want to shop or eat there.

Event 2- “Gardening”, Picnic and walk around at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.

Ant problem…?

I have an ant problem in my garden.their not eating the plants that were already established, only the one’s that were started from seed outside. I have lost all my bush beans, all of them had ant larva in them and two of my peas were the same and my zucchini.
what can I do to get them out of my garden. I have a square foot garden with good organic soil. Help!!!
Ok, this is what happened. all my seeds were starting to sprout, my peas were doing great. well I planted 9 bean bushes, only one was sprouting after a few days it stoped growing so I dug all of them up. The beans that were planted looked rotten and had larva in them, the same with 2 of my peas and zucchini, those were all seeds… the plants that started as plants are fine, at least they look really good and are growing well… what ever the problem is can it be fixed? are they going to eat more of my seed started sprouts?

Spread Grits or cornmeal in your garden. They can’t digest either and will kill them. Mind you, it takes a little longer than the expensive stuff, but it works.

Gardening Nova Scotia
Moving to Moncton, weather/gardening questions.?

I’m considering a move to the Moncton area. I’m looking at houses on the eastern coast about 30 mins away.

I’m wondering about the weather. I currently live in Northwestern Ontario where winters are long and cold (-30, -40). Our growing season is very short. Up here we’re lucky if our last frost is by June 1st and then summers are still cold and yucky. Gardening is over by mid September. How cold is the Moncton area? How long is the growing season?

Is it much colder than Nova Scotia? I also looked there for housing but am not finding quite what I”m looking for.

Anything you can tell me about the weather and gardening there would be great. I need to make this decision soon so I can put my house up for sale.

Thanks a bunch!
How long is the growing season? First and last frost dates?

Is it much colder than Nova Scotia?
Nope pretty much the same as Nova Scotia (omit Halifax/Dartmouth). Windy, not to cold and snow accumulation varies from year to year (IE: Last year on may 1st there was some snow left and this year there was no snow left on march 18th).

Housing
Moncton is considered by many to be the cheapest market for real estate throughout “Urban Canada”

Employment:
It really depends on what you do for a living but employment is kinda limited I found here. Especially in Education (French). TheY graduate here they wanna stay here.

Gardening:
Question too vague to answer in a few lines

I’ve been here downtown Moncton for the past 3 years and I like it. I think the people are friendly but NewBee is my home province (Edmundston) so It may just be me…

if you wanna know anything else don’t hesitate to email me, I’ll reply (:

*EDIT: First frost will vary from mid Sept. to early October gardening season starts around mid may to early june…
