got two job offers 1 at Olive Garden as a server, another at Lowe’s for 9.19.hr. Anybody work at either place?
hi.. I have been a server for a while and getting burned out on it. Just got an offer at Olive garden as a server (duh)…for 2.13 per hour/tips. Or a cashier’s position at Lowe’s for $9.17 per hour. I am not sure which one to take. Anybody ever work for either company? I hear Lowe’s is a great company to work for, I don’t know. Tired of the food industry personally. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. I know as a server in the past, people are cheap. Especially if I would be working at OG it would be strictly lunches. Help!!! Thanks!
I’ve worked as a server myself, and I can tell you after a number of years experience, it all depends on the market you’re in and the type of clientele your restaurant attracts.
I’ve noticed that Olive Garden has these specials from time to time (i.e. – the Never-Ending Pasta Bowl) that has the cheapskates hobbling over there in droves. Most of them usually do McDonald’s or some other fast food alternative and have no clue about tipping, despite the fact that they get to have YOU as their personal slave for 1-2 hours. Sad, really…
As this point, I would suggest you take the Lowe’s job. Over 9 bucks an hour for a cashier position is not that bad. If nothing else, just to get out of the foodservice industry if only for a little while.
And if you ever decide to get out of Lowe’s and back into foodservice, word of advice: try to get a position with a locally-owned restaurant with a high-end clientele (not necessarily fine-dining, but somewhere that doesn’t woo the cheapskates; they ARE out there). Stay away from the corporate chains; aside from the wide range of clientele, mostly cheapskates, so many rules and regulations implemented by humorless corporate cyborgs.
